A Lonely Yorkshireman

The contradicting ramblings of a sodding old fool

Forgive me father, for I have sinned
An age, a lifetime it’s been
since my last confession.

I’m a married man of five years now,
I am unhappy, please tell me how
another man’s wife could be my obsession.

She holds my heart, and lent her ear
when my hour of need drew near.
We found a love that cannot be.

One Monday… I kissed her, she kissed me.
Until that moment I was dying.
Father, she set me free.

Every minute spent in her embrace,
like innocent child in His grace,
remembered till the end of days.

Why must life be so serious?
Can’t I just make her laugh?
Can’t she just let me love?

Forgive me father, I live in sin.
